A question about bench warrents?
I just had a friend call me and tell me that his ex that works at a near by sherrifs department called him and said he has a bench warrent for a ticket 7 years ago.It was for driving with out a seat belt with a supended licence….In the past 7 years he as not been pulled over,he has been to the state DMV and a local DMV for changes on his licence,no mention of flags….He also bought a gun in this time frame from a well known retiler, somthing you can’t do with a bench warrent.
Does anyone know how long a bench warrent stays on your licence?We live in Louisiana….
I personally dont belive that this makes any sence,and feel that his ex is trying to scam him…They havnt spoke in over a year,and he feels as she wouldnt lie about this for she could lose her job,and she was just recently hired there.

A bench warrant is issued when you fail to show for a court date. Did he miss a court date? I had a bench warrant because I forgot to register my cat’s rabies shot with the local animal welfare center, then I didn’t show for the Jan. 31st court date bc I got the letter in February. I just called the courthouse. They had me call the animal shelter and I sent in a check for $19 and all was well. I’d say just call the courhouse or the DMV. It’s his record. They should be able to tell him if he has a warrant. Also…if he does. It is best to turn yourself in and explain why you did not go to court. Of course, anyone doing a background check would have seen the warrant, so it could all be bs. But still best to call and find out.
